What families ask us

How does admissions work?

A family writes or calls, comes to a Wednesday visit, then applies with a short form and a page from the student.

When are visit days?

Most Wednesdays from October to April, so a visitor can sit in on the meeting. Book one online, or ask for another day.

Can we visit before we apply?

Yes. A visit is part of how families decide, and the student is welcome to come along.

What is a day like?

Check-in, a humanities studio, a math or science studio, lunch crew and yard time, then an afternoon choice.

What does the meeting do?

It decides what the school tries, changes or stops: the Friday outings, the lunch crew, the phone rule, how the room is arranged. Every student and teacher has one vote.

Do students decide everything?

No. Staffing, tuition and the safety routines belong to the teachers and the school's board, and are explained to the meeting.

How many students are in a class?

Twenty-eight students in all, in three studio groups by grade.

How is a student known without grades?

A teacher writes a page each term on what a student read, made and worked on, and the student adds a page. Families meet a teacher once a term.

How does tuition work, and how do we ask about aid?

Tuition is set by the year. Financial aid is available, and we explain how to apply at a visit and by email.

When do we hear back?

Offers go out in late March. If a place opens later in the year, we call families on the waiting list in order.

Still have a question?

Write to the office and a teacher will answer.
